'Trial by Opera'
The Ministry for Fun vs. Gilbert & Sullivan

The Ministry for the Unification and Furtherment of Fun, in a recent review of the current state of entertainment in Britain, have decided to axe the works of Gilbert and Sullivan. The Ministry accuse G&S of boring their audiences, pessimism with regards love and relationships, writing songs of utter nonsense, writing poor quality lyrics and music for the female chorus and of being anti-establishment and unpatriotic. The bumbling Judge muddles his way through the trial as the prosecuting and defending counsels do all they can to put their cases across. The evidence to be examined is twenty-or-so of G&S' songs taken from all thirteen of their surviving operetta. The defense lawyer falters and proceeds to raise the ghosts of Gilbert and Sullivan to do their own dirty work. The spectres do all they can to justify their work and refute the charges brought against them by the Ministry for Fun. Will Gilbert and Sullivan prove their worth or will their operettas be axed forever?
